Photo shoot for film poster

I started of by buying the props I'll need for the photo shoot. This included a black balaclava, I choose one with three holes because I knew I was going to use a female model and I wanted her eyes and lips to be shown. The female model represents the female gang leader in the opposing gang. Since the film is called Candy I wanted to represent this somehow, so I went to buy a big colourful lollipop which can be instantly recognised as a sort of treat (candy).  Next I had to think of make-up, I decided to keep my models eyes very simple which a winged eyeliner and went for a matte blood red lip. There are so many connotations from using the colour red such as blood and lust which is why I thought it would be prefect to use. Although you wouldn't be able to see the models face completely you can tell she's a female and the red lips.  I wanted a plain background so I used a white backdrop and since it was late in the evening and we're in autumn there was basically no natural sun light so I had to use artificial light.

I took 3 sets of pictures, one was in formal wear (shirt and jumper), the next was with black vest top which was visible and the next was top that wasn't visible. I picked my favourites from all the three sets which I have displayed here.

                                                        Set 1

                                                      Set 2

                                                     Set 3

Now I need to select two I really like so I'm able to experiment with them all to end up with my final image.

  1. A great photo shoot Rachel with lots of photos that have real potential to make striking posters! The playfulness of your film title 'candy' and the iconographic lollipop is a genius idea in juxtaposition with the balaclava! Excellent styling....perhaps a future career path for you? I am so impressed with your work #mediasuperstar See me for a merit :)
